Sea to Summit’s Frontier Ultralight Kitchenware Range is designed for adventurers who demand both lightness and intuitive ergonomics. This premium collection simplifies outdoor cooking and dining, offering compact yet full-value performance and collapsible convenience. It is perfect for explorers looking for efficiency and minimalism in their gear, the jury of the ISPO Awards found at their meeting in the spring of 2024 and decided to recognise the new collection with the coveted prize.
The Frontier kitchenware is designed to be used as an integrated camp kitchen system. Various sizes of cooking and dining gear can be nested together, maximising space efficiency. The 2.0L Pouring Pot, 1.1L Kettle and all Cups and Bowls collapse down to a fraction of their in-use size. The Frontier Pots are available in different sizes and designed to nest inside each other. Constructed of hard-anodised aluminium, stainless steel, food-grade silicone, and glass-reinforced nylon, the series combines lightweight durability with safety and ease of use.
Sea to Summit was founded in 1990 and is based in Perth, Western Australia. The brand is an award-winning manufacturer of skilfully designed all-terrain outdoor equipment. Its products range from ultra-light cookware to the most versatile tent on the market. The brand is no stranger to some of the world’s most remote locations and its products are tried and tested in the world’s most demanding environments.
Sea to Summit’s Frontier Range is intended to provide great outdoor dining experiences wherever adventure may take you. The Frontier Bowls and Cups which are included in the set mark an evolution over the previous model X-Bowls and Cups. The Frontier tableware is more ergonomic and thus easier to use, and it is lighter despite maintaining the same level of durability.
Bill Raczkowski, Product Manager at Sea to Summit Head Office, summarised the testing process designed to ensure reliability and longevity: “Product evaluation was a mixture of working with the development company, utilising an external engineering consultancy who built test rigs, and many hours of abusing the prototypes”. And he concluded: “Testing doesn’t always have to be hard work – stopping for a cuppa in the middle of a forest is always special”.
Key innovations for the pots and pan include secure Click-Safe handles and the LidKeep feature, which enhance functionality and safety for wilderness cooking. Ergonomic touches include spoon-friendly curves and a sleek, minimalist aesthetic that enhances tactile comfort and improves the outdoor dining experience.
The removable Click-Safe handles can be stowed away for transportation and locked securely into place when in use, with an audible click to signal that they are firmly in place. The lid features a silicone rubber ‘clip’ moulded into the underside of the grip called a LidKeep which allows the user to temporarily attach the lid to the side of the pot while stirring or seasoning.
The utensils are exceptionally lightweight, durable, and designed to nest together to minimise packed volume. Collapsible bowls and cups are 30% lighter than their predecessors and feature smooth sidewalls for easier use and clean-up. The rigid pots and pan in the range are made of hard-anodised aluminium with a ceramic non-stick finish. All Frontier kitchenware is BPA, PFAS and PFOA free, and all the materials are certified to EU and Japanese food-grade standards. Given its outstanding functionality, sustainability and low weight, the jury decided to present the ISPO Award 2024 to the Sea to Summit Frontier Ultralight Kitchenware Range.
