ISPO Award Winner 2024: Mammut Haute Route MIPS Twiceme helmet

The primary goal of the Mammut Haute Route MIPS Twiceme helmet is to provide a lightweight, extremely well-ventilated helmet for multi-sport use, offering the highest level of safety. To achieve this the brand updated its popular Haute Route helmet with the MIPS brain protection system and Twiceme Help the Helpers Technology, raising the safety standards for multi-sport adventures and fast tours.

Developed to offer the highest level of safety, the Haute Route includes both MIPS and Twiceme technologies.

It is incorporating MIPS for enhanced impact protection. The Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) is a helmet technology designed to reduce the risk of brain injuries caused by rotational forces during angled impacts. Rotational motion, often a result of oblique collisions, can lead to serious injuries such as concussions or even more severe brain trauma.

MIPS works by incorporating a low-friction layer inside the helmet. During a crash, this layer allows for slight movement relative to the outer shell. This movement redirects and absorbs a portion of the rotational forces, thereby reducing their transmission to the brain and providing enhanced protection.

Additionally, the Twiceme "Help the Helpers" technology enables bystanders to access essential personal information quickly, saving valuable time in emergencies. The digital technology offers several advantages: it comes with an integrated Medical ID which securely stores medical and health information like allergies, conditions, and emergency contacts offline. This info can be accessed easily with a smartphone, even without the Twiceme app.

Further, it has beacon functionalities with rescue and friends alerts. This allows you to follow each other and alert relevant national and local rescuers or friends in case of emergencies. A get-back timer also allows you to draw out the area of the map where you’ll be without internet, and when you plan to return. If you don’t make it back on time, your last known location and an alert are sent to emergency contacts. Twiceme also has an equipment health check that helps spread awareness around equipment’s limitations so users can perform self-checks on their equipment, and be notified when it’s time to change their gear.

It is lightweight thanks to the in-mold construction, while Mammut is working with recycled EPS to reduce the environmental footprint of the helmet. Further, the product features a durable hardshell, enforced in the back, ajnd comes with a 360 degree-adjustment system and all season padding. Besides its safety features, the Mammut Haute Route is equipped with an advanced ventilation system and performs just as well on the way up as it does on the way down. This includes internal air channels and an anti-fog system for your goggles. The helmet has an integrated fixation for your headlight and a separate one for the goggles.
