With the development of the new Zero Series, Austrian trekking pole specialist Komperdell is taking the next big step towards greater sustainability and is way ahead of many companies. Instead of just focusing on the most environmentally friendly materials and production methods, the company, which still manufactures entirely at its Austrian headquarters, is also taking responsibility in the after-sales area and has set up a comprehensive repair service.
For Komperdell, sustainability means conserving resources, avoiding waste and reducing emissions. As part of the Zero Waste programme, all components have been optimised in terms of sustainability. Komperdell uses many recycled materials, such as Austrian aluminium, to minimise transport distances. Production waste is fed directly back into the melting process and can be used for new products. Even production dust is recycled, namely in the handles, in which bound production dust and waste are combined. Overall, the Zero Series is made of extremely lightweight yet robust aluminium and has particularly sturdy clamps.
In order to offer a long-lasting product, it is equally important to look after it during the use phase. Komperdell therefore offers a comprehensive repair service and repairs damaged poles “without asking questions", as the company says with a wink. The clear design without superfluous details also speaks in favour of a resource-saving approach, which is continued in the minimal packaging.
All in all, the new Zero Series is a responsible product whose sustainability concept extends from design to end user and beyond. The sturdy poles are continuously adjustable from 105 to 140 cm. There is also a compact model that adjusts from 90 to 120 cm.
