The Julbo Hailot represents the new generation of multiple-use freeride and mountaineering ski helmets, combining all the protection and features required with an attractive design.

Der neue Julbo Hailot eignet sich für Skitouren, Freeriden und Alpinismus.

This ski helmet is designed for various situations: Julbo’s Hailot ski helmet aims to balance the mountain and freeride aspects of skiing for the new generation of freeriders. It features a low-profile shell and carefully chosen materials that deliver protection, durability, and lightweight. Thermal regulating plus safety technology such as MIPS and Recco add to its usability and make it the perfect solution for off-piste skiers: it facilitates the ascent and maximizes the joy on the way down. This concept also appealed to the ISPO Award jury when they took a close look at the helmet during their jury meeting. They decided to honor the Hailot with the coveted ISPO Award 2024.

Nicolas Defude, Helmet Product Manager Julbo, explains: “The ambition of the Hailot is to match the needs of the mountaineers and the freeride skiers into one singular helmet. Usually, it’s hard to use ski-touring helmets for other activities due to the two pronounced styles. On the other side, if you use a regular ski helmet in a freeride environment, you will lack all the extras that make your life in climbing easier.  So, all the off-the-beaten track skiers will find the solution in the Hailot.”

Certified for skiing and mountaineering

First of all, the Hailot meets all the requirements of a standard ski helmet. In terms of safety, this meets 3 different certifications: the European (CE EN 1077) and US (ASTM F-2040) ski helmet standards as well as the alpinism helmet mountaineering standard (CE EN 12492). On top of that, the Hailot also features MIPS technology offering rotational protection and RECCO rescue technology helping search & rescue teams find you in case of an avalanche.

“We also worked on the adjustment, we have a 360-fit adjustment system at the back of the helmet, but you can also adjust the helmet in height. So, we make sure that the fit and hold of the helmet is perfect during action”, Nicolas Defude adds. “With a weight of 380g, we managed to balance weight and ventilation. Plus, the global volume of the product was reduced by 5% compared to standard helmets. This makes it less bulky and easier to carry on a backpack, for example. “

Lightweight and well-ventilated

Julbo chose materials carefully to combine protection with durability and lightweight. The inner lining of the helmet is done with fast-drying Coolmax fabric and extra-light mesh to ensure good management of heat and sweat during intense activities with a minimized weight.

The helmet is made to be worn at different weather conditions and different times of the day and it’s prepared to be worn with any piece of equipment you might need on these different occasions,” Nicolas Defude points out. For example, when you have to set off in the dark to climb a mountain and reach the freshies early, you will need a headlamp. The Hailot is equipped with a minimized headlamp kit that will allow you to secure your headlamp separately from your goggles in case you need both. “We also developed a special high-wear storage for the sunglasses, in case you need to stow them away during the ascent, for example when you reach a shadowy spot”, Defude explains.

After weighing up all the pros and cons, the jury decided to award the Julbo Hailot with the ISPO Award 2024. It will be launched in September 2025.
