When developing the Odin 9 Worlds 3.0 Jacket, the outdoor experts at the Norwegian-based manufacturer Helly Hansen faced a very special challenge. How do you make an absolutely successful model, which has already proven itself many times in use on the mountain under extreme conditions, simply even better? Especially when it's not just a niche product, but an absolute best-seller?
The Odin 9 Worlds 3.0 Jacket builds on its established and hugely successful predecessor model, with the fabric development team uncovering a special resource that ensures it is even more responsible. Under the apt designation "Ocean Bound", the Norwegian-based brand uses recycled material that is sourced within 50km of a coastline or main waterway in regions where waste is mismanaged. An estimated 20 percent of all plastic waste in the oceans comes from marine sources. Of this, around half arises from abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear. Known as “ghost gear”, they form a major source of marine litter. By collecting the plastic at this stage Helly Hansen prevents it from polluting the oceans and harming marine life in the first place. The plastic is then recycled and used as a component across a range of their collections.
In the Odin 9 Worlds 3.0 Jacket, the "Ocean Bound" recycled material is one of many elements in the sustainable design of the jacket for absolute professionals and enthusiasts who expect not only outstanding functionality and technical performance at the highest level, but also a responsible use of natural resources.
The Odin 9 Worlds 3.0 Jacket was developed in close collaboration with experts from search and rescue teams and professional mountain guides to be perfectly prepared for missions in the toughest conditions on the mountain. The performance-oriented design naturally takes into account the wearing of helmets, backpacks and climbing harnesses as well as extreme protection against wind and water with the best breathability.
This is ensured, among other things, by the proven HELLY TECH® 3-layer fabric construction and, of course, the fully taped seams. Soft inserts on the chin, a multi-adjustable hood, hand gaiters, ventilation zippers, a RECCO® transponder and a multitude of smartly planned pockets complete the professional features.
Thus, the Odin 9 Worlds 3.0 Jacket offers all the technical features that true outdoor professionals can expect, and also manages to meet the important consumer demand for greater environmental awareness in an innovative way. Of course, the Odin 9 Worlds 3.0 Jacket has a Bluesign® certification, which stands for the highest production standards in terms of resource productivity, consumer protection, water preservation, emission control and occupational safety in manufacturing.
The successful bridging of the recycling cycle from marine equipment to recycled fibers in the alpine sector is just one of the arguments that speaks for the potential of the Odin 9 Worlds 3.0 Jacket as an absolute favorite jacket for outdoor enthusiasts. Because no one has to compromise in the essential core areas of performance, function, protection and comfort with the Odin 9 Worlds 3.0 Jacket. A promise of performance that also made the previous model the best-selling hardshell jacket in the Helly Hansen product range.
With the Odin 9 Worlds 3.0 Jacket and the "Ocean Bound" material, Helly Hansen has succeeded in finding new ways to implement important and indispensable measures for the responsible use of the environment and resources not only in a project framework, but also in a product line that is already established on the market and extremely successful.
