Mountain sports are changing. The pure experience of nature is complemented by the idea of performance, which was previously only known at performance level or in endurance sports. Higher, faster, further: mountaineers compete with time - and also with the rock.

But classical mountaineering also remains popular. The claim of the athletes is to carry light and safe equipment on the rocks, as well as during trail running, climbing and bouldering.

Climbing is booming. Thanks to the numerous climbing and bouldering halls in the country, many beginners can become familiar with the most popular of all mountain sports. Often their path leads from the gym to the rock.

Bouldering, climbing at jumping height, is much more demanding out on the rock. First the athletes have to get used to the rock. Then you have to dare to make difficult moves, because among the climbers there are usually only crash pads (portable boulder mats), on which a fall is not particularly recommendable.

When climbing, however, you are secured to the rope. A common distinction is made between sport climbing on rocks and multi-pitch climbing, which in turn is roughly divided into alpine climbing and plaisir climbing. There is a trend on the rock.

What is central to all activities, whether indoor or outdoor, is the topic of safety. The semi-automatic belaying device in the picture is one of the most popular safety devices on the market.

Mountain sports and travel can also be combined perfectly, because attractive areas can also be found outside the Alps. The photo shows a climber in Kalymnos.

The mountains have a special charm: The German Alpine Association has more than 1.2 million members. The boom is accompanied by increased interest in sustainability issues, which also play a major role in the industry.

The great closeness to nature of mountaineering is an obligation. Environmentally friendly production processes are already standard in many companies, while optimization is still being driven forward in others.
