The Swiss tennis star had total revenues of 106.3 million dollars (approx. 95 million euros) in this year's ranking. Of this, 6.3 million dollars were prize money and 100 million dollars were income from endorsements. In the previous year, Federer was in fifth place with a earnings of 93.4 million dollars.
In second place comes soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus Turin with a pay of 105 million dollars (60 million dollars salary, 45 million dollars endorsements). Third is Lionel Messi from FC Barcelona with 104 million dollars (72 million dollars salary, 32 million dollars endorsements). In 2019, Messi was the highest earning athlete.
Only two women made it into the ranking of the 100 highest paid athletes. The Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka is in 29th place with 37.4 million dollars (3.4 million dollars in prize money, 34 million dollars in endorsements). US tennis queen Serena Williams comes in at 36 million dollars in pay, making her 33rd (4 million dollars in prize money, 32 million dollars in endorsements).
