The running phenomenon "Ragnar" has also arrived in Germany. On August 25 and 26, the Reebok Ragnar Wattenmeer from Hamburg to St. Peter-Ording was the first edition of the already well-established and popular US relay series in Germany.
In teams of ten runners each, the participants ran the 250-kilometre course in two days and one night.
Dozens of Ragnar Road Relays and Trailruns are held annually in the USA. With Reebok and Nathan, the running series has also found partners from the sporting goods industry.
The Ragnar series was launched by Steve Hill, his son Dan and Tanner Bell in 2004 with the first Wasatch Back Relay in Utah. Meanwhile, the Ragnar Relays are the largest overnight relay races in the USA.
Since Tanner Bell moved to London in 2016, he has been trying to establish the series in Europe. For the event in Germany, he cooperated with "BMS - Die Laufgesellschaft", which organizes the Hella Hamburg Half Marathon, among others.
