Jake Burton Carpenter, the founder of the snowboard brand Burton is. He died of cancer - at the age of 65 years. His company commemorated him with an emotional contribution in the social networks.
"It is with a very heavy heart that we share that Burton founder Jake Burton Carpenter passed away peacefully last night surrounded by his family and loved ones as a result of complications from recurring cancer." Burton honours him as "the soul of snowboarding, the one who gave us the sport we all love so much".
Carpenter played a big part in snowboarding becoming a mass sport. In 1977 he founded the company Burton Snowboards, which quickly became quite successful. In the following years, he was one of the most important persons in the development of snowboarding.
WIth Donna Carpenter, his wife and co-founder of Burton he raised three sons. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2011 and seemed to be cured. But the cancer recurred.
