In her mid-20s, Janja Garnbret is already one of the most successful climbers in the world. The exceptional Slovenian athlete inspires not only with her numerous world championship titles and her historic gold medal, but also with her authentic nature. Garnbret has shown exceptional talent since her youth and continues to set new standards through hard work and tireless ambition. Even injuries, such as a broken toe in 2023 during preparations for the World Cup season, do not throw the climber off track and show all the more her impressive willpower.

Janja Garnbret is also a true source of inspiration away from the climbing wall, especially for young athletes. With her involvement in various youth projects and her positive charisma, she encourages the next generation to pursue their dreams.

Hero moments

From an early age, Janja has shown exceptional talent in climbing. At the age of 14, she joined the Slovenian national youth team and took home the title of European Youth Champion in her very first season. From then on, things literally went uphill for the climber: she won her first World Championship title in 2016. She can currently look back on more than 40 World Cup victories and 8 World Championship victories.

Janja can chalk up the biggest moment of her sporting career so far in 2021: That year, sport climbing made its Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games. Just how groundbreaking the debut of sport climbing was for the discipline is documented in the film The Wall - Climb for Gold. Janja Garnbret and four other qualified climbers are followed as they prepare for the Olympics. The film offers a unique insight behind the scenes and shows in an emotional way how the women push themselves to their mental and physical limits on the way to Tokyo. Janja Garnbret's efforts are rewarded with a historic success: she is the first athlete to win the gold medal in the Olympic combined event, consisting of speed climbing, bouldering and difficulty climbing!

"Janja and the magic flower"

It is important to Janja to motivate young people to dream big and not give up. The children's book "Janja and the magic flower", written in collaboration with Janja, combines all of this. The book, which is based on true events, tells the story of her sporting career and the passion that still drives her today.

Climbing Couple

Janja's partner Domen Skofic is also a successful climber. In an interview with "Outdoor-Magazin", Janja reveals: "We first met in 2013 in the Slovenian youth squad and got on very well right from the start. Domen is not only my most important partner when climbing, but also in other areas of life." Together, the two of them have climbed Europe's highest chimney in Srbovlje, Slovenia, the longest artificial climbing route in the world. The chimney rises 360 meters into the Slovenian sky and is the ultimate climbing destination in the couple's home country.

"It's not enough to have desire for gold medals, you have to love the process that gets you there."

Sponsors and partnerships

High up - that's not just Janja's goal, but also the brands that work with her. Adidas is one of them: for the climber, the three stripes stand for leadership, bouldering and speed - so it's no wonder that she has the brand as a partner and wears Five Ten Hiangle climbing shoes. Another partner is I feel Slovenia, and Janja carries on the love for her home country (the only country you can't write without "Love").

Janja Garnbret's greatest successes

Further and further, higher and higher - in the truest sense of the word. Janja's medal cabinet is full and more than deserved. There are certainly many more to come, but even now the list is already impressive:

  • 1 x gold medal at the Olympic Games
  • 8 x gold and 2 x silver at World Championships
  • 3 x gold and 2 x silver at European Championships
  • 45 World Cup victories

From the wall to the cover

Despite all her titles and achievements, the young athlete's main focus is on having fun. Her recipe for success lies above all in her indescribable passion for climbing and belief in herself. As if that wasn't enough, Janja graced the cover of Cosmopolitan in 2023. She shows that athletes are much more than just competing for medals and championships. A true multi-talent!
