National Team Member Monoski & Para-Skydive
Niko Johann

Biography

Niko is a sportsman through and through and has dedicated himself entirely to his passion for sport, both as an athlete in several disciplines and professionally. Niko is also an activist for greater inclusion and a diverse society. His journey through the various areas of sport began as a teenager with mountain biking, but a serious training accident resulting in paraplegia meant that Niko had to reorient himself and explore new avenues. Niko initially competed in ski racing and freeskiing for several years in the National Para junior squad and took part in the Winter X-Games in Aspen (USA) in monoski X in 2016. The problematic funding and sponsorship situation in disabled sports led to a change of sport and Niko has been successfully chasing medals as part of the German national para-bobsleigh team ever since. A few years ago, Niko then caught the flying bug and began training in skydiving, which led to Niko now being German champion in indoor skydiving in the new inclusive competition discipline Handifly and also taking part in international competitions in this sport as part of the German national squad.Niko's professional background is in structural diversity work and he works for the Saxony-Anhalt State Sports Association as an event inclusion manager in sport and as a Speaker on Diversity Topics.
