Winner of the ISPO Award 2024: Kathmandu’s Women's Seeker Lined 4” Shorts

Performance shorts for the outdoors, made with carbon capture technology:

Iconic New Zealand outdoor brand, Kathmandu, continues to explore how it can incorporate recycled materials into products. As part of its Outdoor Active range, the Women's Seeker Lined 4" Shorts pack a punch crafted from three innovative technologies: carbon capture, advanced recycling, and a bio-based anti-odour finish.

Carbon Capture:

The Women’s Seeker Lined 4” Shorts main fabric features performance-focused, four-way stretch polyester, made with LanzaTech's carbon recycling technology. LanzaTech’s technology captures carbon emissions from steel mills before they enter the atmosphere, converting them into ethanol using fermentation by bacteria. The ethanol is converted into a chemical used to make polyester.

Advanced Recycling:

A secondary fabric used to make the shorts is Q-Cycle by Fulgar: a nylon made from recycled plastic waste, including end-of-life car tires.

Bio-based Finish:

The citric acid-based Ionic+® Botanical finish eliminates odours.

Active Performance design:

Designed with meticulous attention to detail, the Kathmandu Women's Seeker Lined 4” Shorts prioritise comfort and confidence in motion. The supportive waistband offers secure storage for essentials, eliminating bounce and providing peace of mind during any activity. Crafted from lightweight fabric with a flattering leg shape and airy inner brief, these shorts deliver a ‘forget you’re wearing it’ comfort.

Statement from Kathmandu:

“In-line with our B Corporation certification, Kathmandu continues seeking ways to reduce our climate impact. By using LanzaTech carbon recycling technology, we are working to reduce our reliance on virgin fossil carbon to make new fabrics and support the recirculation of carbon-rich gases. We are incredibly passionate about designing product that pushes industry boundaries, and to be recognised for that, on a global platform, is an honour and we are immensely proud.”
