Those who value their personal fitness usually pay attention to a balanced and healthy diet. This is often more environmentally friendly. Our diet therefore not only influences our fitness, but also the climate. And even how we exercise and what sports equipment we buy leaves an ecological footprint. Seven tips on how to make your fitness climate-friendly.

01

Pay Attention to Seasonality and Regionality

Seasonal products can usually be produced without additional effort (for example, heating greenhouses). They are therefore low-emission in production. In addition, greenhouse gas emissions are reduced thanks to shorter transport routes. In addition to opting for predominantly plant-based products, the following factors play a role in a climate-friendly diet predominantly plant-based products the origin and the time of harvest also play a major role.

Use Fresh Products

You are what you eat: About one third of global greenhouse gas emissions are linked to the food supply chain. Unpackaged, fresh vegetables and fruits usually have a good record. Case in point: potatoes. They have an emission of about 200 grams of CO2equivalents (CO2e)* per kilogram. For frozen French fries, the emissions of CO2e per kilogram are around 5700 grams. So you save about 96 percent of greenhouse gas emissions per meal if you choose homemade (and healthier) fries.

03

Consume Less Meat

If you reduce your meat consumption, for example by 100 grams per day, you save up to 344 kilograms of CO2e per person per year. With a vegan instead of a vegetarian diet, you save an average of 16 percent CO2e. Our tip: Try our recipe idea, the myclimate "Zero-Burger“.
